A bronze group of Lord Vishnu and laxmi
South India, 16th century
Seated on double lotus base and wearing a bejewelled crown on his head, his right leg in at ease gesture ( pralambapada) With the goddess Laxmi seated on his left leg. In his upper right hand the wheel of life (chakra ), his lower right hand in a blessing gesture, the upward turned palm shows auspicious symbol. Vishnu holds a lotus in upper left hand and his consort goddess Laxmi in his lower left hand. Vishnu is the most important god of Hindu trinity. Vishnu the great preserver, left the heaven, descended to the world of man and rescued mankind from evil.
