Description

A carved and painted wood and ivory double headed bird known as Gandaberunda, possibly a royal standard or furniture fitting. Each of the bird heads with crest to the top and holding a plant in the mouth. To the centre of the chest a rosette with trident pendant below. Wings spread to the side of the body; legs splayed to the side with wide fan tail between. Details of the feathers painted to the surface of the ivory in red, yellow, green and black pigment. Tang to the bottom for fitting to a base.
