A Javanese Keris Madura Sumenep, with 13th century blade.

Umur: From the Tuban Majapahit Era.

The Keris with a straight hand forged Wilah (blade), consists of Pamor steel forged in different layers of iron (pattern type: ‘Batu Rante’, which is rare for this type of model). Dapur in ‘Brojol’ shape. Wooden Mendak (cuff), between hilt and blade. Keris hilt (‘Ukiran’) in Madura Style and carved from painted wood in ‘Kakatua’ (parrot) shape. The Warangka (sheath) also in ‘Kakatoa’ shaped. Warangka and Gandar (body) both made from painted wood and patiently carved by hand.

Length of the blade, including ‘Pesi’ (tang of the blade): 37 cm. (1x)

Note 1: The official history of Tuban began in the Majapahit era in the 13th century. There was once an important ceremony when the king of Majapahit crowned Ronggolawe as the principal of the Tuban region. It was held on 12 November 1293 and that date has become the anniversary of Tuban, making it more ancient than Surabaya.
