A Javanese Keris Solo, with 18th century blade.

Umur (age): Kartasura, the capital of the Sultanate of Mataram.

The Keris with a hand forged ‘5 Luk’ waved Wilah (blade), consists of Pamor steel forged in different layers of iron (pattern type: ‘Beras Wutah’ and ‘Kinatah Emas Wedono Siji’). Dapur in reshaped ‘Singa Barong’ Dapur). Copper gilded Mendak (cuff) of ‘Kendit’ type, between hilt and blade. Ukiran (Keris hilt) in ‘Jejeran Salembaran Yogya’ shape, and carved from Tayuman wood. Warangka (sheath) of ‘Gayaman Kagok Bancihan’ type (‘kidney’ shaped) and made from Cendana Jawa wood patiently carved by hand. Gandar (body) (body) with silver plated Pendok (cover), silver plated Bunton with ‘Lung Lungan’ pattern.

Length of the blade, including ‘Pesi’ (tang of the blade): 41.2 cm. (1x)

Note 1: Between 1680 and 1755, Kartasura was the capital of the Sultanate of Mataram. This Sultanate was the last major independent Javanese kingdom on Java before the island was colonized by the Dutch. It is commonly referred to as the Kartasura era or period of the Mataram sultanate. It preceded the transfer to Surakarta by Pakubuwana II.
