A lacquered-wood standing figure of Amida Nyorai
Japan, Edo period, Late 18th/early 19th century
Carved wood decorated in black lacquer and gilt, the figure standing on a lotus pedestal and dressed in flowing robes, the hair and forehead with glass byakugo, with whorls of hair in the centre of the forehead, the right hand raised and the left hand lowered with the palms facing outward, with the thumbs and index fingers in the yogan gesture.
