Alexis De Leeuw was a Bruges painter who lived between 1848 and 1883. This romantic painter produced pastoral scenes in which animals (particularly horses), nature and especially rural life were depicted in a very idyllic way. These paintings were widely used for the production of Christmas and greeting cards.
