An Imari porcelain bowl
Japan, 19th century
decorated in underglaze blue with overglaze enamels of red, green, aubergine, black and gold, the central medallion depicting a mythical beast and scrolling lotus, encircled by a band with geometric motifs, a band in the concave depicting various roundels and cartouches with floral and geometric motifs surrounded by shi shi’s, coins and peony on a geometric ground, the rim with a band of geometric motif, the exterior with similar decorations. Signed to the base: Tai Ming Chenghua Nian Zhi.
