Artist information:
Although Stien Eelsingh was born in the Dutch town of Zwolle, she went famous as the “painter of Staphorst”. As a young girl, she liked to paint and therefore she moved to Amsterdam in 1935. Here she took private lessons and joined two different artists’ associations, “De Brug” and “Arti et Amicitiae”.
In 1941, she got married with the painter Roel Frankot. Because of the war, she moved in 1942 to the East of Holland, to the small and folkloristic village Staphorst. She moved in to a little farmhouse what later became famous as the “White Farm”. It served as a home, exhibition space and studio.
