The Dutch painter and traveller, Cornelius de Bruyn, travelled to Constantinople and the empire between 1677 and 1684. De Bruyn’s account of his travels through the Ottoman empire between 1677 and 1684 was profusely illustrated with engravings made from his drawings and sketches, which are noted for their objectivity and exactness. Printed on 2 joined sheets, as issued.
De Bruyn painted for some years in Italy, where he was known, in Rome, as Adonis. Bruyn is remembered mainly for the records of his extensive travels in Egypt, Persia, India, and other countries, illustrated with his own designs.
