Artist information:
Johan Hendrik Weissenbruch is generally regarded as one of the most gifted painters of the ‘Hague School’ in the second half of the 19th century. He mainly painted landscapes in the surroundings of The Hague and in the ‘polder’ landscapes around Boskoop and Gouda. The Dutch skies fascinated him and he was a master at reproducing the typical Dutch sky, sometimes clear, sometimes diffuse and damp. Weissenbruch has given lessons to Victor Bauffe and Théophile de Bock.
