Johannes Weiland has lived and worked in The Hague, Vlaardingen and Rotterdam. He studied at the Akademie in Rotterdam, where he also started teaching student from 1879 on.
Weiland produced paintings and watercolours with interiors, landscapes and still-lifes. He regularly traveled to the Dutch province of Brabant, where he mainly painted farmer’s interiors. A genre that was very popular around 1860.
