“Master of Buli” Mask, Luba People, Democratic Republic of Congo. 1950.
A wooden mask in the style of the Master of Buli, with elongated face with prominent cheekbones, arching brows, half-closed eyes set in sunken sockets, a high rounded forehead, and pursed drooping lips. Hair pulled back into two buns and bound with a band carved with chevron pattern.
